We spent all yesterday in the car, driving from Sedona, Arizona to
Cortez, New Mexico. On the way we stopped at several vista points,
and made an extended stop at Petrified Forest National Monument.

We expected a little drive-through park with a gift shop; we got a 28
mile drive with ten or fifteen stops.

So we were there about four hours.

And we still had 230 miles and two state lines to go. We could have
spent all day there.

After a relaxing morning, an invigorating afternoon and a quiet
evening yesterday, we're about to leave the Phoenix metro for Sedona.

We woke up at the crack of 6:45, took a quick walk around the
campground before the sun came up. Now we just need to brush the sand
out of our bedsheets, pack up the awning and get
underway....eventually; checkout isn't till noon.

A quiet morning yesterday, we got moving around 11, took Missy to a
dog park in Chandler, got her soaked down and ran her around a bit
before leaving her with a friendly couple who also owns a T@b trailer.

We got lunch at Joe's Farm Grill, which we discovered thanks to our
fascination with the Food Network's Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. (I
actually made a DDD spreadsheet to organize where Guy stopped the
first three seasons, so if we're in need of somewhere to eat I can
look it up: http://bit.ly/4opITR )

We also took a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West, the winter
villa of the famous architect. Apart from the heat, we had a fun time.

Missy enjoyed her day, and we ended the evening hanging out with Lori,
Cindy, Wiley, and Madison before coming back to basecamp to be
seranaded by coyotesong before bed.

We considered a night in Palm Springs to break up the trip, but we
spent two weeks in Palm Springs just a few years ago. We decided
Arizona might be more interesting. So we're making a direct drive to
Phoenix, maybe another trip we'll pay a visit to the little oasis of
Palm Springs.

July Trip - Jackson Rancheria RV Park

So here we are again.. at the Jackson Rancheria RV Park. This weekend we are taking our nephew Jonathen to a week long United Methodist Church Kids Camp about 45 miles east of Jackson, CA. This was our first time with another body in the T@B. Together Missy & Jonathen took up more sleeping space then we did.

Sunday we took Jonathen to see the new Harry Potter movie before we drove him up to Camp that afternoon. The weather was in the low 100's hot but really nice at night for a late walk abround the RV park

We will return here MANY times for sure..

June Trip - Clear Lake State Park

This Months trip we headed north of the Napa valley and went to Clear Lake State Park.
We had one of the BEST spots in the Campground overlooking Soda Bay.

Sunday we took a kayak out on the lake for a bit. Yes, we even took Missy out on the lake. Sunday night we had some tasty BBQ Chicken.

Clear Lake State Park is a great out of the way state park.

April Trip - Mt Madonna County Park

This past weekend we headed to Mt. Madonna County Park between Gilroy, CA & Watsonville, CA.

We arrived Sat night and the place was packed lots of families camping here for Easter weekend. Sunday we hiked around the park and Nathans brother Jared and his wife Steph joined us and later that day Nathan & Jareds Grandmonther joined us for a BBQ Dinner.

March Trip - Samuel P Taylor State Park

We spent the weekend at Samuel P Taylor State Park

We arrived at this so close to home location and the campground was such a nice ans small place. really great for Tents and Small RV's like our T@B. Sunday we drove to Point Reyes Station picked up some fruit, cheese and bead for lunch at Point Reyes National Seashore and took Missy for a walk out on the Beach,

What a wonderful place and so close to home! We will need to come back soon

February Trip - Jackson Rancheria RV Park

We spent the past weekend at the Jackson Rancheria RV Park.

This was our second time at this RV Park. This was a very mellow trip for us, we stayed close to the park. It rained most of the weekend and we loved being in the trailer watching movies and hearing the rain.

We went to the buffet at the Raging River Restaurant at the Casino.

November Trip - New Brighton State Beach

After Thanksgiving we headed to the Coast to New Brighton State Beach in Capitola just south of Santa Cruz.

We had a costside space on the cliff. We loved waking up hearing the waves crash on the beach below. The weather was outstanding. both days in the mid to high 70's

We saw another tab at the campground, an hour later we saw it drive off. Another missed Tab meetng.

Saturday afternoon Nathan's brother and his wife met up with us and we went for Lunch at The Crow's Nest in Santa Cruz later we went for a walk on the beach, that eve we has a post Thanksgiving dinner in the tab and a few beers around a campfire

I stopped by Costco today.. for some Thanksgiving stuff (turkey etc) and to get some gas for the truck.. Holy Crap. I paid $1.79 a Gallon for regular unleaded..

$31.00 for about 17 gallons .. just in time for a weekend camping trip to Santa Cruz this coming Saturday

As Erik mentioned, we met up with Mark and Katie a few times last week. Friday night, we had the opportunity to try the Chieftan pub down on Market Street, great beer, but not so great for talking. I like the idea of live music, however, trying to have a conversation while both the murmuring of the crowd and the music of live band competed for soundspace, I was almost tempted to simply text my words to everyone, rather than try to be heard.

After we finished our drinks, we left the bar and walked a few blocks to the Metreon Center. It was getting a bit late, and several of the restaurants were already closed up, but Firewood Cafe was still serving dinner, so we grabbed a pizza and a salad and had a better--audible--conversation until we got kicked out by the cleaning crew.

Monday the four (well, six if you count our dogs) met up in our stomping grounds. We had a nice--quiet--lunch at Plearn Thai Palace, and took the dogs to the Walnut Creek dog park before the sun set. Mister and Missy had as much fun as we did, and got some much-needed exercise.

Less Bear; More Brrrrr

We wandered around Yosemite yesterday, the park is a lot less busy in October than it was in May. Grabbed some lunch fixings from the village store and had lunch at the trailer before leaving Missy and heading for a hike along the first part of the Mist Trail.

"Moderate-to-strenuous": boy they weren't kidding. In my city-boy shoes and pants and flatlander leg muscles, I barely got to the bridge before saying "uncle" and having us turn around. Next time I'll come loaded for bear with better hiking gear and apparel. I was considering mugging a fellow traveler for their hiking pole.

Mr (or Ms) Bear made another appearance last night, even came up to our campsite, but we were comfortably in the trailer and didn't even suspect we had a visitor. Next-camp-neighbors saw the bear walk by the river and told us about it. For a big animal, they sure are sneaky.

The LP tank breathed its last sigh of propane last night leaving us without a LP refrigerator, heater or a stove. We knew it was getting low, but figured as little as we used propane, we could squeak by this trip without a refill. Almost did, too.

We broke out the portable, backup camping stove and warmed a can of soup for dinner, then later in the evening, rather than risk bear mauling outside, used the open flame of the camp stove to toast marshmallows for smores.

We discovered on waking up this morning that the refrigerator really keeps the trailer nice and toasty. Usually, we wake up to a comfortable temperature, I tend to start sleeping in layers and by the next morning, have shucked my socks and at least my sweater; but this morning without the LP refrigerator running and dumping waste heat in the t@b, we were freezing. Thank god we had the dog to keep our feet warm.

Good Morning Yosemite

Saturday morning, and we're still alive. Last night Yosemite North
Pines campground was full of the sounds of campers driving off an
ornery bear.

Our next-campground neighbor said that this particular bear had been
making an appearance every night this weekend. Mr. Bear seemed to
wander off around 10 pm, just in time for quiet hours, and we slept
the night without incident.

Arriving to a camp spot after dark is pretty impresive, come the next
morning. When we woke up we were treated to this sight out our window.

October Trip - Sonoma Coast

We were off again this past weekend... Yes, two weekends in a row camping. Saturday morning we headed off to the Sonoma Coast camping at Stillwater Cove Regional Park. We stopped on our way up the coast to enjoy the waves and let Missy check out the area (pee break).

Once we arrived and had set up TabStream a fellow camper came over and said " I LOVE your cute little matching trailer & truck" and she waited until we had set up to come over to look at our "rig" we gave her a tour of the TAB. This was the first time someone waited, most of the time we get someone coming over wanting to look at our TAB before we even back into our space.

Stillwater Cove was a wonderful location and such a nice small family campground.

Sunday we took a drive up the coast to visit some of the small coastal towns. We stopped in Gualala at Bones Roadhouse. We had Beer, Stuffed Potato Skins, Clam Chowder and some of the best Onion Rings we have had. (yes those are onion rings .. not Cinnamon Rolls)

September Trip - Napa Valley State Park

This past weekend we went to Napa Vally State Park.

We arrived and unhitched the T@B and drove into St. Helena and had dinner at Taylor's Automatic Refresher, Taylor's is classic roadside diner with the BEST Burgers you have ever had. (they also have a location in the San Francisco Ferry Building) We had Blue Cheese Burger, Beacon Cheeseburger, Garlic fries & Beer. They also serve whatelse... Wine.

After dinner we stopped by the Supermarket and picked up some milk and a DVD at the RedBox DVD rental
Napa Valley State Park is so nice in the fall. The park was full Saturday night and about half full Sunday night.

Sunday we took a walk around the park and went into St. Helena for lunch at the Silverado Brewing Company for their Oktoberfest. Good Food, Good Beer. Great weather to eat outside. They are very dog friendly and gave missy a water bowl.

August Trip - Camp Shelly

We arrived Saturday at Camp Shelly in the late afternoon. The campground is operated by the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District. Erik grew up in Livermore and his family spent many summers camping here when he was a child.

There were about half of the 26 sites filled Saturday night and Sunday night we were one of 2 sites being used. It was nice pretty much having the entire place to ourselves.

We took a drive around Lake Tahoe. Nathan had only been up to Tahoe in the winter. We took Missy for a walk and enjoyed the warm weather.

Emerald Bay is such a beautiful area of Lake Tahoe.

Erik's folks came up and stayed in TabStream mid week as we had to go back to work for the week. We will be back for Labor Day weekend.

August Trip - Jackson Rancheria RV Park

This last weekend we stayed at Jackson Rancheria RV Park. We checked out this RV park a few weeks ago after we dropped off our niece and nephews at summer camp. This RV park is very new it opened in February 2008. We arrived Saturday night around 8pm and were greeted at the registration desk by a very friendly staff member. The spaces are all surrounded by lots of grass and young trees (great shade in a few yrs). The park has a large swimming pool, two hot tubs, a dog park, a large Clubhouse etc.

The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians owns the Jackson Rancheria Casino, Hotel & RV Park.

Sunday morning we took Missy for a walk around the park looking at all the over sized trailers and RV's making our Tab look like a toy.

We went to brunch at the St. George Hotel in Volcano, CA. The town of Volcano is a cute "tiny" town in gold country. Last month we took our nephews to the Black Chasm Caverns just down the road from downtown.

Later Sunday we went took a drive to the Montevina Winery in Plymouth, CA.

June Trip - Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park

We camped at Henry Cowell Redwoods SP just 5 miles from downtown Santa Cruz.

We arrived at the campground around 7:30 pm Saturday. As we drove to our space we saw a teardrop trailer. When we walked around camp the next day the teardrop was there all alone.. it had business cards on it from http://www.vacationsinacan.com

Sunday we drove into Santa Cruz and met up with our Sister in law Stepheni and took our dogs for a walk on the beach and let them play in the water. Missy loved it and slept very well that night.

That evening Nathan's brother Jared joined us after work at camp for dinner and a campfire. It was great to hang out and spend time with Jared & Steph.

May Trip - Yosemite part 2

We drove from Groveland to Yosemite just over an hour.

After spending time on the valley floor for a few hours it was getting hot around , We decided to go to higher ground and head to Glacier Point.

May Trip - Yosemite part 1

We spent the weekend at Yosemite Pines RV Park in Groveland, CA

The drive to the RV park took about 2.5 hours. We enjoyed the drive up into Gold Counrty. Just past Oakdale, CA we saw a T@B Clamshell on the side of the road for sale ( too much traffic to stop and get a picture)When we arrived the weather was close to 100°.

Our space at the RV park was nice (Water/Electric) we set up the Tab tent for the first time, it was great to have some extra space. We also have the Tab Awning and a Coleman 14 Event Sun Shelter. We will use the Sun Shelter to cover more area when we spend more time at one location.

The park managers came by our area and remarked that the tent was larger then the trailer.

I got a call this morning at 8am that the transport would be picking up our Tab around 9:30.. I met the driver at our storage and helped him get his trailer down the narrow driveway to get his trailer as close as possible to our Tab.

TabStream is on its way to the factory to have the frame replaced.. see ya soon!

T@BStream Damage Update

We were told that our Tab was going to be a total loss.. a couple ofweeks later we were told it can be fixed and will need to be sentback home to Dutchmen, a week later we were told by our claimsadjuster that her supervisor wanted to see if there was a local placethat could do the repairs and that they would not be sending our tabto Dutchmen.. .. Well, after 60 days in the claims process.. We hitour wall with the insurance company, We were about to file acomplaint with the State Dept of Insurance.. We spoke with thesupervisor and insisted that they send our tab to Dutchmen for therepairs.. ..

Well, Good News!!.... TabStream will be picked up next week and sentback to the factory for repairs. We should have our beloved tab backin 4 - 5 weeks

T@BStream Damaged

We thought we were going to have a great weekend heading to the coast and watching the Mavericks Surf Contest and staying at the Half Moon Bay State Beach Campground in Half Moon Bay, CA. We arrived at our Storage to find that someone (with a LARGE Truck) had hit and run over our tongue and coupler and crushed the coupler handle, broke the Jockey Wheel, bent the frame and god know what else has been done.. And no note to say ooh sorry for the damage to your 4 month old cute Tab.. uuugghh

December Trip - Oregon

For Christmas we took the TAB on the longest trip we have been on so far. We went to Jefferson, Oregon..(565 miles)

We left Walnut Creek around 7:00 pm Saturday Dec 22.. We decided to stay overnight at a Rest Area just north of Yreka, CA. We stopped around 1:00am parked and got in the TAB and turned on the furnace and got the trailer warm in a few minutes.. We slept til around 8:30am, took Missy for a short morning walk and got in the Ridgeline and headed off to Oregon. We stayed in front of my brothers house in Jefferson, OR for 2 nights and drove back home to CA all day Christmas as we both had to be at work on Dec 26.

A few notes about Oregon....You can't pump your own gas.. Nice, but if they are busy it can take some time to just gas n go. Oregon has some outstanding Rest Areas, Super Clean, Lots of Room, and spaced well along Interstate 5

Napa Valley, Calistoga & Mud Baths

Our Trip this month we stayed at the Napa Valley State Park. I always forget how close we are to the Napa Valley ( 65 miles )

We arrived around 7:30 pm Saturday on Thanksgiving weekend. There are about 40 spaces for avg sized RV/Trailers at Napa Valley State Park. There were maybe 8 spaces being used. One family was there with their small children in a tent.. (brave folks.. it was in the mid 30's over night).

We took a walk around Calistoga, CA (5 mins from camp) we had lunch then decided to take a drive to Clear Lake, CA. We walked around some of the lake, Missy met some other dogs and they played for awhile. That night we had reservations to go to Golden Haven Hot Springs Spa for a couples Mud Bath.. We slept very well that night.

Bodega Bay & New Honda Ridgeline

Well, the much loved CRV is gone and we got a new Honda Ridgeline (I wanted the Rigdeline in 2005 when we got the CRV but Nathan won out in 05) We are a one vehicle household so we needed something that fits us all the time. We LOVE the Ridgeline, the trunk is an outstanding feature. Missy our Boston Terrier loves the big back seat of the Truck.

Our first trip we went to Bodega Bay, CA. We left Walnut Creek

Saturday after I got off work. We hit a huge traffic jam on HWY 24 just before the Caldecott Tunnel .. there was an accident inside the tunnel and all lanes blocked for an hour...

We stayed at Bodega Bay RV Park a very nice clean place. Sunday we went to Point Reyes Station, CA. We are huge cheese lovers and the Cowgirl Creamery is our favorite we got some good cheese and ate lunch in town at Rosie's Cowboy Cookhouse. Before heading back to Bodega Bay we took a nice long drive up to Occidental, Ca.

After looking at the Tab trailer in person I made contact with every Tab dealer in California to get their best price. Some would not "give me a quote" and a few others did.

We wanted a Sliver/Jolt Grey Tab with:

After getting the best deal we could find we settled on California RV Sales in Fontana (about 420 miles from home).. We saved close to $4,000.. ( well worth the 6 hr drive)

We started our drive to Fontana,Ca Sunday September 23rd at 2:00am.. We drove all night.. Well.. I drove all night, Nathan does not enjoy driving as much as I do. We arrived at California RV Sales at 9:00 am ( after stopping for gas and breakfast along the way)

It was a VERY Long Day.. they put on the hitch and wiring harness on our 2005 Honda CRV. After 4 hours we finally pulled out of the dealer with our New TAB ..

We headed West to Leo Carillo State Beach near Malibu. After being up almost 20 hours I was ready for sleep.... We really liked Leo Carillo State Beach and hope to return. The area was stunning the weather was great.. Since this was our frist trip with the TAB and we wanted to head home..

Monday: It was a long slow drive back to the SF Bay Area As it turned out it was a good thing we left and planned to drive back home all day.. the CRV is good for flat land towing but for the hills in California this is NOT a good match for our TAB it was a struggle for the CRV to tow the TAB and keep up a speed of 60

After the long drive home from So Californa we started to look at getting a new Truck... A week later we got a New Silver 2007 Honda Ridgeline.
